It’s not often when a big event arises that you feel compelled to walk away from the keyboard. With the theatrical trailer release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the heaviness that ensued soon after, walking away felt like a flight response. After watching the trailer several times, it felt as if a mortar shell had gone off, leaving my brain soaked with a sort of ringing in the ears you get from a concussive wave. Like Tom Hanks character on Omaha beach during the film “Saving Private Ryan.” – my mind stumbling, everything slighted muted, confusing and surreal.
I love nights like this. Tonight, after months of waiting we have our theatrical trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The mood tonight was electric and could be felt pretty much everywhere. From the concourse of the Alamo Cinema Draft House here in Virginia to Star Wars Twitter, this glimpse into the next chapter of our saga has everyone buzzing. All that hype and pressure was blown away by the performance of Director Rian Johnson and his crew for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. A marvelous trailer for what will be an incredible film.
Director Rian Johnson took to the Twitter show “What’s Happening Now!” to showcase the last missing piece of the marketing package for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it’s poster. The poster which has Luke Skywalker predominately hovering above the main cast of characters in a red and white ensemble is nothing short of a masterpiece. The dichotomy between Rey on the left and Kylo on the right symbolizes the divide between each shade of the Force. What I love most about this poster is Leia, which given her position in the poster steals it for me. This just might be my favorite Star Wars movie poster outside those from the original trilogy.
With another day comes another release of the micro-series of short for Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny. In this episode, “The Starfighter Stunt”, Padme Amidala and Ahsoka Tano do the Top Gun thing and practice dogfighting in space. That is until an unsuspected variable geometry self-propelled battle droid makes an appearance. It’s really great to see the Naboo fighter in action, especially Padme’s which is all chromed out. Enjoy the video folks.
If there is one word to describe the Star Wars fandom, it’s consistency. For the third year, fans are swirling with questions as to when the theatrical trailer for a Star Wars film will drop along with its ticket sales. With the weather turning colder and leaves falling out of the sky, so means the fires of speculation on when these events might happen.
For Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the mood for the trailer was electric. There on October 19th, during Monday Night Football, we all finally got to see and more importantly hear our new heroes in one fantastic trailer. This new peek into for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will have a different sort of flavor, in that it won’t be debuting a new era for fans, as it will instead showcase what’s next in our saga.
