Back last October, Visceral announced it would terminating it’s Star Wars single player title and soon after, shutting its own doors. Fans were disappointed that so far in the new era of Star Wars there has been so few game titles released. Today, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella sitting in the crowds of the EA Play event in Los Angeles announced that its Star Wars game in development will be called Jedi: Fallen Order. The game takes place between the events of Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope, during the “dark times” of Order 66. The game will be released during the holidays of 2019.

This announcement struck a chord with me this afternoon after the recent marketing misstep with Solo: A Star Wars Story, which analysts claim cost the film in box office returns. Today at EA’s Play event, Respawn CEO, Vince Zampella sitting in a crowd, not onstage, revealed little to nothing about this project.  To announce a significant AAA Star Wars game that has been in development for two years with nothing to show for it is ridiculous and concerning. Vince Zampella should have been on-stage, showcasing the logo, concept art and work-in-process stills of characters and landscapes of this new story. Moreover what about the game itself? Is it a single player game or an MMO?  Will this title be on all major platforms? To have nothing regarding visuals, gameplay, and information about the game, what is the purpose of announcing it at all?

Marketing is an essential element for Star Wars to succeed. Right after the recent marketing let down with Solo: A Star Wars Story, today’s reveal of Jedi: Fallen Order was honestly, just plain piss-poor.

The official Star Wars site has more information about the upcoming title Jedi: Fallen Order and additions to Battlefront 2.

“Electronic Arts officially announced that additional Clone Wars-era content, highly requested by fans, is coming to Star Wars Battlefront II. Starting this fall, Hero characters including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sith Lord Count Dooku, and General Grievous will enter the game, along with a new location: Geonosis, one of the prequel trilogy’s most iconic worlds and the site of the first Clone Wars battle. Time to decide if you’re with the Republic or Separatists…”

After getting more information from Lucasfilm and soon after from Respawn, we now have a better picture of this single-player title. The concept of a Padawan, surviving the misery of Order 66 sounds like a grand adventure. My instant thought was of Caleb Dume, later named Kanan Jarrus from Star Wars Rebels animation series. More than likely, however, this will be a new character set in our universe. My hopes are high, but my disappointment in the delivery of this great news still leaves me with a sour stomach.
