Frank Oz is no stranger to the tight-lipped secrecy surrounding everything Star Wars, but even he is feeling the pressure to keep his mouth shut when it comes to the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In an interview with Variety, the legendary puppet master and voice of Yoda was asked about his rumored involvement in the new movie. He responded by saying:

“I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.”

Oz never explicitly denies his involvement in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, only expressing his love for the iconic character. He goes on to say that he never saw Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but that he thought Star Wars: The Force Awakens was “so much fun”.

During the production of The Last Jedi, there were reports of a new Yoda puppet being constructed under high security. If The Last Jedi is really going to explore the mystical nature of the Force, then having Yoda appear as a force ghost is the only logical next step. This seems like a surprise the filmmakers will want to save for the movie, however, so don’t expect to see any footage of the diminutive green Jedi anytime soon. There is also the chance Frank Oz may be bringing to life other puppets in the film as well. Whatever the case, Frank Oz in a Star Wars movie is always cause for excitement.
