Variety is reporting that Netflix has secured a deal with Disney to stream Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Canada for 2016. Great news for our dear friends up North but it looks as though a deal could not be reached with Starz who own rights to new Disney movies till 2016.

In the U.S., premium cable channel Starz has an exclusive output deal with Disney that runs through the end of 2015; Netflix’s pact with the Mouse House commences with 2016 titles. With “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” slated for Dec. 18 theatrical debut, that means Starz will be the pay-TV home for the movie in the U.S.

Great news for Starz but really bad news for Netflix subscribers. Maybe for 2017 folks.
